The Importance of Personal Hygiene
Personal hygiene is more than just being clean. It's about maintaining physical health and wellbeing, and also about social comfort and interactions. Good personal hygiene habits include brushing your teeth, washing your hands regularly, and bathing or showering regularly. These habits don't just keep you smelling good; they also help to prevent the spread of illnesses and infections.
Oral hygiene is also a critical part of personal hygiene. Regular tooth brushing and flossing can prevent a range of dental issues such as cavities and gum disease. Remember, just because your teeth are yellow doesn’t mean they aren’t clean! Your teeth have a natural yellow hue to them and over whitening can damage your enamel. My favorite part of my oral care routine is tongue scraping. I use a generic cheap one from Amazon, but where it’s from doesn’t matter. It is incredibly satisfying to see the grime come off your tongue, even if it is a little gross. I have also noticed a major change in how my breath smells throughout the day. My breath has always been a major insecurity of mine simply because no matter how hard I tried, my breath always smelled awful. Once I started scraping my tongue I had no issues.
Hand hygiene is another essential aspect. Washing your hands regularly, especially before eating or preparing food and after using the bathroom, can prevent the spread of many infections and diseases. If you’re like me and hand washing is something you sometimes forget about, (ew I know) try and make it fun. Buy yourself a fun smelling soap or a bar in a cool shape, whatever it takes!
Now onto showers. For me, showering is my favorite part of the day. It is a time when I am all alone and can reset. I shower every night but only wash my hair three times a week. When I tell people how often I wash my hair, they often assume I am dirty or unhygienic, which is so not true. I wash my whole body daily, soap and loofa, the whole nine yards. I have straight ( I am currently gaslighting myself into thinking it's wavy) hair, so this is the routine that I have found works best for ME. Depending on your hair type you might need to wash your hair more or less. You can find so much information online about what is best for you based on your hair type, or you could just check my whole page on that. :)
Personal hygiene is about maintaining one's health, but it's also a social necessity. Being clean not only feels good to you but also to the people around you. Notice how I said nothing about acne, body hair, or physical appearance? That is because those things have nothing to do with your hygiene, a little hair on your legs doesn’t make you dirty, you are beautiful!
